Difference Between Power Cable And Control Cable

It is well known that both power and control cables are devices that provide cable transport. Power cords are suitable for places such as city power grids or power stations. And control cords are suitable for industrial and mining enterprises, and the energy transportation sector.

Then they are different in addition to the scope of application, what other aspects are there differences? Today ZMS editor will introduce the difference between power cables and control cables in several aspects.

By definition, control lines are PVC insulated, PVC sheathed control lines suitable for use in industrial and mining enterprises, energy and transportation sectors, for control and protection lines with a rated AC voltage of 450/750 volts or less.

Power cords are cords used for the transmission and distribution of electrical energy, electrical lines are commonly used in urban underground power grids, power stations lead lines, industrial and mining enterprises' internal power supply, and over-the-river and sea underwater transmission lines. ZMS cable manufacturer of these two types of wires is very popular, basically for this purpose.

1. The Difference In Structure

Control cables are generally long lines of basically the same cross-section, with a copper core or galvanized. Also can have insulation filler pieces shielding protective jackets and so on.

The electrical wire consists of four parts: core (conductor), insulation layer, shielding layer, and protective layer. The core is the conductive part of the power line, which is used to carry electrical energy and is the main part of the power line. An insulation layer is a core and the earth and different phases of the core between the electrical isolation of each other to ensure the transmission of electrical energy is an indispensable part of the power wire structure.

15KV and above power cables mostly have a conductor shield and insulation shield layer. The role of the protective jacket is to protect the power wire from the intrusion of external impurities and moisture, as well as to prevent direct damage to the electrical wire by external forces.

The color of the insulation core of the control cord is mainly black printed white, and power cable low-voltage is generally color separation.

2. The Difference In The Role

Control cables are mainly used for the transmission of control, measurement signals, and other lines. Control cables are suitable for mainstream and AC 50HZ, rated voltage 450/750V, 600/1000V and below industrial and mining enterprises, modern high-rise buildings and other long-distance operations, control furnaces, signal and protection measurement circuits. And power lines are mainly used in the transmission of strong electrical energy in the generation, distribution, transmission, transformation, and power supply lines, through the current.

Power wires are used in the power system trunk line for the transmission and distribution of large functional electrical energy, commonly used in the urban underground power grid, power station lead-in lines, industrial and mining enterprises' internal power supply, and over the river and sea underwater transmission lines.

3. The Difference In The Implementation of Standards

The standard of the control cable is 9330, and the standard of the power cable is GB12706.

4. The Difference In Cross-Section

Power cable for a load wire, the flow rate increases with the increase in power, and the wire application cross-section must also increase with the increase in current, so the specifications of the electrical wires are generally larger, as large as 500 square (conventional manufacturers can produce the range), and then a large cross-section of the general can do relatively few manufacturers, while the control line for the secondary command wire, the control is the contactor and other devices current-carrying operation, the load current is very small. Wire cross-section is very small, so the control line cross-section is generally small, the maximum general not more than 10 square.

5. The Difference Between The Wire Sheath

Power cable requires the sheath has sufficient compressive strength, tensile strength, temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance. Control cord requirements are relatively low. The same specifications of industrial electrical power lines and control lines in the production, power cord insulation, and sheath thickness as the control line thick.

6. The Difference Between The Number of Cable Cores

Power cable core number is less, there are single-core, two-core, 3-core, 4-core (three-phase four-wire system), 5-core (three-phase five-wire system), according to the requirements of the power grid, up to 5 cores in general. The control wire for the transmission of control signals, the number of cores more, from 2 cores to 61 cores, or even more. Control lines also use a variety of core structures, shielding, and other measures to obtain a satisfactory electromagnetic compatibility effect.

7. The Difference Between The Rated Voltage

The rated voltage of power cables is generally 0.6/1kV and above, and control cables are mainly 450/750V.

Knowing the above information can be of great help to you in purchasing cables. Know these differences and taking the initiative to ask when buying wires, there will be no purchase mistakes and confusion. ZMS cable supplier can provide more good quality and low price cords and services for everyone in terms of quality control cords and electrical cords.
